Tupperware so Fresh

“Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.” - Garfield 🐈

If you’re like me and always running 5 minutes behind then you understand how a little bit of preparation can go a long ways. So, when my family decided to try Whole30 in December 2018 (okay, let’s be honest, I informed Josh he would be doing Whole30 with me and he graciously consented. AKA he quickly realized I wouldn’t be cooking two meals so he better get on board) we knew that planning meals would be imperative. This is when we decided we should be prepping our meals for success. Thus, I discovered MEAL PREP containers.

Meal prep containers are basically just Tupperware, but they tend to have compartments so you can separate your different foods to avoid mixing flavors or something getting soggy, etc. The containers come is various sizes and materials. They are usually composed of either plastic or glass, but all are REUSABLE.

We opted to start with plastic containers (as opposed to glass) because I wasn’t sure if we’d stick with meal prepping and I wasn’t ready for the investment of glass containers. After much research and cost-comparison we opted to trial containers by Freshware. They are BPA free, microwave/dishwasher/freezer safe. We have the 3-compartment containers and have loved the different compartments for separating food, but they also come in 2-compartment and 1-compartment.

We’ve been using these containers since December 2018 (approx 3.5mos) and have noticed some of the lids have little cracks in them. Possibly due to the product, possibly due to abuse from the users.. Seriously, these things take a beating from us (I’m pretty sure Josh used one as a makeshift hockey puck once). But, even with the small cracks they are air tight and don’t leak.

You can find the containers on Amazon for around $16 for 21 containers. I did eventually buy 15 more containers because someone (who shall not be named, but may or may not be married to me) would

forget the containers at his office where they eventually met their demise by the janitorial staff. {Tragic, I know.}

Sunday is my meal prep day. I can usually bust out breakfast and lunch for 5 days for two people (Josh and myself) in about 1-2hrs. We store our food in the refrigerator and microwave it when ready to eat. If there’s something I don’t want microwaved (i.e. fruit, cheese, sour cream, etc.) I will place either a small piece of paper towel or wax paper in that section of the container (under that food) so I can easily transfer it out of the container prior to microwaving.

At the end of the day, we rinse the containers in the sink and throw them in the dishwasher. {bc I am not hand-washing those bad boys. I draw the line at that.}

Overall, we are really happy with the Freshware meal prep containers. They’re very affordable and I’d

highly recommend it to someone just starting with meal prep or someone on a budget. They probably won’t last more than a year, but it’s a great starting point and I am very happy with this investment.

And there you have it. My meal prep containers that are so fresh and love to hold all da’ foods. {BTW - These photos of Lilly & Rocky don't have anything to do with meal prep. She just entertained herself like this while I was meal prepping yesterday and it was adorable. So I wanted to share. :) }

This is my way to live Extraordinary in a very Ordinary way.

xoxo - Lisa
